Office Snacking – How To Avoid It
How to avoid office snacking is a huge issue and a question I get asked all the time. You know how it goes, you are doing great, eating healthy and feeling on top of the world. Then, the dreaded “Office Birthday Party” or the “Girl Scout Cookie Sale” happens and there is a never-ending flow of junk food in the break room. I almost forgot my favorite, “Honey, take these leftover desserts from (fill in the holiday blank) _________ to the office.”
How many times a day do you walk by the break room seeing all the tempting junk food? If you listen closely you can hear it calling your name. What should you do? How can you stay on track? Great question!
Here Are My Top Tips For Avoiding Office Snacking
Keep Your Desk Drawer Filled With Healthy Snacks – If you know it is someone’s birthday before you go celebrate, eat one of your healthy snacks and have a glass of water. Then you will feel full and can enjoy the party without the temptation.
Keep These Items on Hand at All Times – Mints, Mint Gum, peppermint essential oil, travel toothbrush, and toothpaste. Now you are armed with some of the most powerful anti-snacking tools. Pop in a mint or a drop of peppermint oil in your mouth when you are feeling “tempted” by the junk food in the office. Having a nice clean fresh mouth will help to cut the craving for sugar way down.
Stop, Sit, and Think – Most of us are so busy, going, going, going. We live our lives on automatic and the food is in our mouth before we even realize it. Then comes the negative self-talk, guilt, shame, and/or frustration.
Before you “DECIDE” to eat the cake or head down to the nearest vending machine, sit down on your chair and notice how you are feeling. Are you truly hungry, having a craving, or are you stressed? Are you going to eat something that is not for your highest good just to be “part of the crowd” or are you going to take command of your health and your body? Ask yourself some questions and see what your answers are.
Prepare a Polite Response to Coworkers – Say your co-workers bring in homemade muffins or their daughter made special cupcakes and you don’t want to hurt their feelings. Having a “prepared” response ahead of time can be very handy. You can thank them, tell them how beautiful the special treat looks and then let them know you just ate a snack at your desk or you are going out to lunch or dinner with a friend and saving room for that special occasion.

This shop has my favorite pieces of home exercise equipment, the same ones you see in my YouTube videos because I use them at home.
